Once it crosses that line into extinction, it will be too late. Marsh Tacky horses were original brought to North America by Spanish explorers in the 1500s. Only 150 Marsh Tacky horses are known to have survived. Until 1967, Marsh Tacky horse races were held on the beaches of Hilton Head island each year after the fall harvest.
